Two Birds Vineyard, Russian River Valley

The Two Birds Vineyard is one of four estate vineyards, named after Proprietors Al and Janis McWilliams who call each other "bird" and live next to these vines. Planted in 2007, the three acre vineyard is planted to three clones or selections of Pinot Noir: Pommard, Swan, and Calera. The soil in the Two Birds Vineyard is a mixture of Loam and Clay Loam and is part of the greater Sobrante Soil series. These soils were formed from weathered sandstone, are very well drained, and are ideal from growing ultra-premium wine grapes. Vine spacing in the vineyard is 4’ x 7’ giving us over 1800 vines per acre. The tight spacing allows each grape vine to be responsible for ripening less fruit per vine thus ensuring a higher probability of perfect, even ripening each year. Each year only a select few barrels from the vineyard are chosen to go into the final Two Birds Vineyard blend. The remaining barrels are allocated to our Longbow Pinot Noir and Russian River Valley Pinot Noir blends.
