Perli Vineyard, Mendocino Ridge

Pinot Noir

A remote vineyard in Mendocino County located 7 miles from the coast, the Perli Vineyard is one of the most ruggedly beautiful sites in Northern California. At an elevation of almost 1800 feet, well above the coastal fog line, owner Steve Alden redefines extreme farming: treacherous slopes with grades approaching 60%, soils that contain more rock than dirt, damp, cool growing conditions - and we haven’t even mentioned the local bear population that has taken a liking to his fruit. Steve meticulously farms this site which is planted to Dijon clones 667 and 777. With average yields only around 2 tons per acre this site produces small clusters of tiny berries that exhibit intense fruit flavors. Though young, the vineyard has already begun to produce wines of considerable depth and intrigue. With continued diligence, the Perli Vineyard could become one of the premier vineyards in Mendocino County.
